Coles customers help raise $910,820 for sick kids in hospital…$2 at a time!29 July 2020
Generous support from Coles customers around the country has given a much-needed funding boost to the Curing Homesickness initiative. From 15 to 28 July, Coles supermarkets sold special $2 donation cards to help raise almost $1M to help sick kids in hospital!
Funds raised from this campaign will help support a range of state-based initiatives such as health specialists and outreach programs in New South Wales, play areas in Western Australia, improved patient experiences in Victoria and South Australia, supporting clinical research in Tasmania and funding new equipment in Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory. All of these vital funding needs aim to get children home from hospital sooner, develop services to connect kids to home while in hospital or make kids feel a bit more at home during their hospital stay.
One mum who knows the difference these funds can make is Adelaide Hills mother Kate. Her three children, Theo (aged 10), Tessa (8) and Torvi (four months) were all born at 26 weeks. In SA, the funds to help the Home Equipment Centre at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in SA.
“My three children were born premature and were cared for by the neonatal nurseries at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide. After months of being in the Hospital, going home for the first time was only possible because of the equipment like feeding tubes, oxygen cylinders and breast pumps we were able to borrow from the Home Equipment Centre,” says Kate.
“It is so important to have the Home Equipment Centre, firstly it means your family can go home sooner, and once you’re home it’s easy to pick up replacement or refills of equipment as everything you need is in the one place.”
This latest successful fundraising campaign comes a year after Coles launched a new range of pasta sauce – called Mum’s Sause – to support the Curing Homesickness initiative. Fifty cents from every jar of Mum’s Sause sold is directed to Curing Homesickness to fund the participating hospital foundation of that state or territory. Mum’s Sause is on sale year round and available only at Coles. It’s perfect for spaghetti bolognese, lasagne, shepherd’s pie or soft tacos on a cold winter night.
